In the beginning...

After the great success of the inaugural Kiwi Brevet organised by legendary kiwi cyclists, promoters and advocates the Kennet Brothers, a smaller, shorter event will take place on the Banks Peninsula late 2010 – Le Petit Brevet.

Le Petit Brevet will run under the same philosophy of the Kiwi Brevet in that the event is entirely self supported along a set route with a challenging time-limit. At the moment the proposed start date is a weekend from mid-November to early December. I am still working on the route but it is likely to encompass the following:

-300 km of mainly back-roads and some single track

-36 hour time limit (Saturday 8am start, Sunday 8pm finish)

-5’800 m of vertical climbing (and descending)

Following on from the Kiwi Brevet there will be no entry fee, no prizes, and some sort of koha will be requested for a community charity along the route.

Rules:

Do it all yourself, under your own steam.

Riders must carry all their own gear (no stashing of supplies in their bach or a random bush on-route).

Cafes, restaurants, hotels etc. are OK. Basically anything that is available to anyone is fair game.

No outside support (eg. support from friends along the way).

Follow 100% of the course.

Riders ride at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety, warmth, navigation, dryness, lighting systems, mechanicals etc. No gear list will be given.

Drafting is OK.

When on public roads, follow the Road Code.

Sign ins will possibly be spread along the route.

No entry fee; no prizes. Some sort of koha will be requested for community charities along the route (yet to be determined).
