Le Petit Brevet Doneburger

Congratulations to all who attempted and completed the first Le Petit Brevet. Conditions made for some tough challenging riding, and of course there was always the hills... 7 km of climbing in total! Initial estimates somewhat flawed.

It was great to see familiar and many new faces out there, thanks to all of you who took part.

Photos, stories and results to follow later in the week.

In Ollies own words... "Le Petit Brevet Doneburger"

Route Corrections

**I have updated the route on mapmyrun to include the following changes (18/10/10):

I am having trouble editing the Mapmyrun route so will post minor route corrections here. Note that I will provide a cue sheet 3-4 weeks before Brevet day.

1. The route out of Okains Bay to Panama rd is incorrect on Mapmyrun. Instead, after descending into Okains Bay, cross Opara Stream via bridge, turn left at intersection and then right up Big Hill Rd. This Rd. becomes Camerons Track, turn left at Lavericks Ridge Rd, then right at Panama Rd. as per route.

2. The route out of Le Bons Bay should follow Le Bons Bay Rd NOT Le Bons Bay Valley Rd

If the Lake Ellesmere Outlet is Open (to the sea) then an alternative route will be selected. This will probably involve continuing along the Rail Trail and then...something to make up the miles? I'll let you know on the day!

Rode most of the middle part of the route last weekend (Little River - Little River) and you can be rest assured that there was a flat bit (don't blink)!

Note route is Clockwise

8 weeks and counting

Just a quick update for those of you who were wondering... the Brevet is definitely still on. I still have a few loose ends to tidy up with the course which I hope to finalise soon. Watch this space!

Mid Winter Update

What a grim winter for cycling it has been so far!

I have managed a few forays out into the wilderness to scope out the route, but not as many as planned. Needless to say, my forays were met with bewilderment at the steepness of some of the Peninsula roads. Having said that, I also rode out to the Lake Ellesmere Outlet one day a month or so ago along a dead flat road and track, so there will be some respite for the hills. I am hoping to bring the course out there, it's a beautiful area, just a long as the outlet isn't open when we venture out that way.

I have had a few comments re. the course date. It clashes with the World Rogaine Championships here in Christchurch. I am not too keen to change the date at the present as I am weary of it clashing with other events and 'things' people have going on. If you have any comments or strong feelings on this either way, let me know and I'll have a think about it.

Anyway, with the shortest day long behind us, I am finally finding some motivation to get out and clock up some miles, summer is just around the corner after all. It would be shame for it to arrive feeling as flat as I do now.

Oh... one final thing. I have a dozen or so people that have given me there interest so far. I'm not entirely sure how many are actually planning on riding, still just thinking about it, or are just vaguely interested in the idea as of yet. Plenty of time though. I'll post up a 'expressions of interest list' later in the year and you can update me your keenness then.
